THERE IS NOTHING TO LOSE - Junior Viketan 12 . 02.2014
On Feb 4 World
cancer Awareness Day,1 50 college girls from Madras Christian College tonsured their
heads and donated the hair to make wigs for Cancer survivors.
Cancer
patients lose their hair during Chemotherapy and some patients even avoid
treatment fearing hair loss. A wigs cost Rs 10,000 to 30,000 which the poor
patients cannot afford. Hence the college girls organised an awareness called 'TANGLED'
from Feb 4th to Feb 14th and as many as 150 girls registered .They roped in
other colleges also for the noble venture.
Rini , a 3rd
year literature student who is one of the donors said that there was iniitally
some hesitation and objection at home , but later they consented.
Ramya , a 3rd
year Philosophy student said that they came to know about 'Locks of Love' a
similar venture in the US from the internet and thought of spreading the need
for hair donation in India where there are more cancer patients.
Maria Shankar had breast cancer and when she lost
her hair during the treatment was able to buy a wig for herself when she came
to know about 'TANGLED', she came forward to donate her wig as now her hair is
grown.
